We have been increasingly concerned about health and the adoption of healthy habits. Nowadays, it is common to find people exchanging information about what is good for the body and about types of nutritious foods. They are searching YouTube and consulting with health experts regarding bodybuilders diets. The reason is simple. All of this focused on keeping the body functioning properly. However, at the same time, the number of industrialized, practical and unhealthy options has become increasingly accessible.

    What characterizes a nutritious food?

The definition of nutritious food can be somewhat confusing. After all, the concept of nutrient can vary greatly depending on the understanding of the person. For that, we need to know what nutrients are. Nutrients are substances present in food that have the function of regulating our metabolism. You can categorize nutrients into carbohydrates (sugars), lipids (fats), proteins, vitamins and minerals.

All of them should be part of a balanced diet. Consuming fats and sugars is fundamental for our body, as these are the main sources of energy for our cells and act in other reactions, such as building important structures for our survival. Therefore, a nutritious food is one that has a good amount of nutrients and is good for our body. It all depends on the frame of reference and the needs of each individual.

What is the importance of good nutrition for our body?

Different foods are rich in different nutrients. Kale is rich in vitamins and minerals. Rice is an important source of carbohydrates, while beans are crucial for protein replacement in our body. Therefore, we often need a very diverse diet to obtain all these nutrients. Deficiency in certain nutrients can make our bodies sick. Too little vitamin A causes vision problems. Lack of vitamin B damages the nervous system and so on. We need to seek a diversified diet in which all the nutrients are part of our daily lives.

What types of problems you can prevent?

Deficiencies in vitamins, minerals and other nutrients can lead to specific diseases. Each of the nutrients has one or more functions in our body. Lack of vitamins and minerals in the diet causes diseases such as night blindness, rickets, osteoporosis, anemia and others. Type 2 diabetes often results from overeating poor sugars such as refined sugar, soft drinks, and many other processed foods.

Hypertension is also a direct consequence of the exaggerated consumption of sodium. Therefore, taking care of your health necessarily means taking care of your diet. It is our main source of nutrients.
