Is it cheaper to repair your printer than buy a new one?

How much does it cost to repair your old inkjet printer toner? It is a common question among laserjet printers, graphic designers and other printing hobbyists. One reason why you may want to change out the printer cartridge in your printer is that you are fed up with having to replace your printer cartridge every few months. There are many factors that will determine how often you should replace your cartridge, but here are some of the more common ones:

A question that is often debated and depends on some many factors

Cost. If you compare the cost of purchasing a brand new printer toner with the cost of repairing an old printer, you will quickly see which option is more affordable. Buying new cartridges usually gives you the best bang for your buck, but unfortunately, they usually cost hundreds of dollars. On the other hand, repairing the old printer toner costs only a few dollars which is considerably lower than buying new printer cartridges.

Warranty. Usually, the manufacturer’s warranty covers damage that occurs to your printer; however, they do not normally cover damages to the print head. The toner inside your old printer can be very expensive to replace; therefore it is important to ensure that you have purchased a reliable repair kit or service. Most repair services online such as  will have the ability to replace the printer toner for free or at low cost in most cases.

For example, if the printer was cheap to buy in the first place then trying to get it repaired may not be that easy

The cost to repair the toner. If you shop around for repair services online, you should be able to get a better deal on the toner than if you simply purchase a new printer cartridge. Some repair services may even offer two per cent off the cost of repairing your old printer toner which can add up to a lot of money if you need to replace all of the cartridges in your office.

Is it cheaper to repair your printer than replace it? The answer depends on what type of printer toner you have. For basic printer’s toner cartridges can be very affordable, and the cost to replace them isn’t very high. Larger printers use small solid print cartridges, which can be extremely costly to replace. In order to save money on your printer toner repairs, you can often just purchase an extended warranty for your printer, which will provide you with a repair service for the life of the printer toner.

Whereas, if the printer is a high-quality brand name then having it repaired does seem like a good idea and will save you money

How many prints do you do on a daily basis? Do you print one page at a time or do you print hundreds of pages? If you only do one print a day, you are probably able to purchase a higher-quality printer toner than someone who prints a lot. However, if you print hundreds of pages, then you may be able to get away with a lower quality toner for your printer, which can be cheaper to repair. Sometimes you can find discount refilling kits which can be used as maintenance-free toners which allow you to replace just the inkjet printer toner when needed which will save you quite a bit of money in the long run.

To help keep your printer working and out of the repair shop, make sure it gets treated well and you are using all the correct products it requires

Check to see if the toner you have is still being produced by the printer. If the toner has produced less ink than is expected, then you may not be able to replace the toner. If you are able to replace the toner, then you need to look at the amount of ink left in the cartridges. A lot of people will replace their toners with new ones because they notice that the ink level in their cartridges is getting low.

If none of the above checks out you then there are other ways of reducing how much it would be to repair your printer. One of the easiest things you can do is to purchase a couple of good toners which are from the same set of printers. By doing this you will always know what the minimum amount of ink is in the cartridge and you can always replace it yourself without having to contact someone to do the repair.

Another easy way of reducing how much it would cost to repair your printer is to change the heads or the toners on your printer regularly. If you don’t do this, then you can expect to find that every time you print something you will have to pay out more than if you simply changed the toners or heads to a new one.
