It is true that when we talk about doors classified as special, fire doors are located within this group thanks to their importance in industrial, public and office buildings. Its well-known function of preventing the rapid spread of fire in the event of a fire from one apartment to another and the subsequent evacuation of those present, makes fire rated door in Singapore essential. As the name suggests, fire doors prevent the spread of a fire.

There are different types of fire doors, but all must meet minimum requirements determined by the standard. The most common are the metal pivoting, which have a simple opening system to easily exit if necessary. It consists of a panic bar that is activated by pressing it to open the door.

How does a fire door work?

Its function is to act as a barrier to prevent the advance of fire. It is very important that fire doors have a self – closing system and that each time a person passes by, they close themselves behind them. In addition, the leaves and frames have to be well adjusted to prevent the passage of hot gases and fumes to the other side. In this way, in the event of a fire, people who have to evacuate are prevented from becoming poisoned by inhalation. All the components of the door are fire resistant and must have a hermetic closing system when required. That is why the lock is usually made of plastic, so that it melts in the heat and does not let oxygen pass through to fan the fire.

    Maintenance of a fire door

The estimated useful life of a fire door is 20 years. It is very important that it is always kept in good condition and good preventive maintenance is done. The controls check that the door has no bumps, deformations, breaks or that it is off the hook. It is also checked that all its components are in perfect condition: locks, hinges, panic bar, gaskets. There should be no obstacles around a fire door. The self-closing system and the closing speed of the door must be checked periodically. It is also very convenient to verify that the blade fits the frame and the ground correctly so that it does not let air or gases pass. Fire doors must be placed in the aforementioned buildings (schools, hospitals, shopping centers, cinemas, etc.) as a security system, and they must also be manufactured by professional personnel from the sector. In this way, a job well done is assured, as is the reliability of its purpose.

Functions that the fire door must perform

Fireproof doors should close the room tightly, not allowing fire to penetrate inside. To do this, it is necessary that the door leaf withstand high temperatures for a long time. It is necessary that the fire door can be easily opened from both sides. The first layer is usually made of metal, but can sometimes be made of fireproof plastic or wood. The last layer is again the installed sheet metal.
