Great facial hair can be something to strive for, but did you know that approximately 41% of women find clean shaven men more attractive?

As social norms and expectations around work and appearance change, though, it’s kind of tough to know exactly what “clean-shaven” means. We’re going to talk about this idea today, giving you some insight into how to make yourself perfectly clean-shaven if you want to.

Hopefully, the ideas below can fit into your grooming routine if you want them to. Let’s get started.

What Does “Clean Shaven” Really Mean?

In most cases, “clean-shaven” refers to someone who doesn’t have any facial hair at all. They can grow facial hair, but they use shaving cream and a razor on their face every morning to keep things trimmed.

It sounds simple, but it’s actually a lot more challenging than it seems. Staying clean-shaven is a great deal of work. Men of the past were expected to be clean-shaven almost all of the time, and it was rare that you’d see someone out in public without having done something to keep their beard trimmed.

If you’re not sure about how to stay clean-shaven or you were never shown the proper way, you can make your way to a barbershop for a shave. They’ll show you how it’s done, leave you looking extremely clean, and inform you on how to do it yourself next time.

Another thing to note is that if you’re new to shaving with a razor, it’s not recommended that you use a cheap disposable razor. There are quality disposable razors, but the most affordable ones tend to be flimsy and prone to cutting.

Exceptions to The Facial Hair Rule

The only facial hair that still fits into the “clean-shaven” look is a mustache. Even then, you’re deviating from the standard look. That said, otherwise clean-shaven people have touted all manner of mustaches for hundreds of years.

You can shave your chin, neck, and face but leave the mustache and still be considered clean-shaven. That’s difficult to pull off, though, so make sure you have what it takes.

Growing a beard is going to disqualify you from this club, though. That means that you have to dedicate time every day to slap on some shaving cream, pull out the razor, and shave the better part of your face.

It’s a respectable way to start your day, but note that there’s nothing wrong with having any facial hair. It’s not 1950 anymore, so you’re not going to be scorned for having a little bit of stubble.

There are plenty of ways to grow a beard and be very well-respected. Look at how James Harden’s entire appearance changed by growing a beard in this article.
