Scooters have played a key role as far as sales are concerned for TVS, making it the third largest 2-wheeler manufacturer in India. TVS have always been keen on topping the charts when it comes to scooter sales, and the refreshed version of the TVS Wego for 2014 has received a raft of changes to help lure more customers. It takes the fight straight to the Honda Activa.
Packed neatly within the frame is a 110cc, single-cylinder engine that produces 8bhp and 8Nm of torque. The motor is air-cooled and comes paired to a CVT transmission. The TVS Wego is BSIV-compliant.
The TVS Wego has a very sharp design. The front includes a large headlamp on the handlebar, sleek clear-lens indicators and a pointy apron. The side panels are well shaped while the tail section too, is sharply designed. The tail light sits flush with the rear panel and looks smart. It also stands pretty tall on large alloy wheels. The fuel filler is placed behind, in between the pillion grab handle. The instrument cluster is nothing to write home about. There’s chrome bordering the speedometer and fuel gauge. The fonts are clear and readable. There is also a high beam indicator. The quality of the switchgear is really good. In terms of dimensions, the Wego is 1834mm in length, 640mm in width and 1115mm in height. The engine is very refined and smooth. Power delivery is linear, and the throttle is quite responsive. It can manage a top speed of 85kph. The motor is also very peppy. Power and Eco mode will show you if you are burning fuel or saving it. At 108kgs, the scooter feels light and nimble. The ground clearance, on the other hand, is 150mm, while the scooter has a wheelbase of 1275mm and a seat height of 770mm.
The TVS Wego has a fuel tank capacity of 5 litres. In terms of mileage, the scooter is capable of returning 70kmpl by ARAI, in BSIV guise.
The seating position is upright and comfortable – this helps when riding around in the city. The seat is well cushioned and offers perfect under thigh support for the rider and pillion. The plastic grab-handle for the pillion feels good to hold. The rear-view mirrors are well positioned and provide a good view of what follows. The handling is confidence-inspiring, particularly when taking corners. The ride quality is perfect and the rear is set up on the stiff side. The disc brake at the front offers good bite; so does the drum brake at the rear. Thanks to the short wheelbase, riding through city traffic is a boon. The scooter feels very nimble. At high speeds, the scooter stays planted. At the front, the scooter rides on telescopic suspension, while the rear gets a unit swing with spring loaded hydraulic damper . As far as the chassis is concerned, it is built around a high rigidity under bone-type frame. The Wego runs on 90/90-12 tyres at the front and 90/90-12 tyres at the rear. Retardation duties are taken care of by disc brakes at the front and drum brakes at the rear.
The scooter comes loaded with a slew of features like a fully digital speedometer, LED tail lamp, black alloy wheels, pillion grab rail, parking brake, external fuel filler, USB mobile charger, dual side handle lock and ignition key glow.
The TVS Wego is available in a variety of shades like Black, Grey, Red, Silver Black, Silver Red, Blue, White, Silver Grey and Silver Blue. Silver Red is certainly a colour that is bound to be a favourite among young riders.
