    The Placement of Metal Braces

For decades, metal braces have been the go-to orthodontic intervention when it comes to straightening teeth. The positioning has continually delivered outstanding results through correcting the bite as acclaimed by Los Gatos orthodontics. Therefore, if you are thinking of how to make your smile straighter, then this is the process in which you should engage. In this blog post, let’s understand how to place metal braces.

    1.  Initial Consultation

The starting point of metal braces is the initial consultation with the orthodontist. During this stage, the specialist will examine the details concerning your teeth, take an X-ray, and discuss the treatment plan. More so, the specialist will review the available orthodontic options and recommend the best fit depending on your condition.

    1. Preparation for Placement

If you decide to go for Metal Braces, the specialist will give you an appointment for placement. Before the metallic braces are fixed, the bonding specialist makes sure that the teeth are adequately cleaned. Not only that but sometimes the specialist may remove some dental appliances, such as spacers or separators, which you may have put in place during the preparation.

    1. Brackets

After your teeth are clean and dry, the orthodontist will apply a conditioning solution to help the bonding substance work better on the enamel. The specialist will then apply a powerful dental adhesive to the back of each bracket before positioning each one carefully on your teeth.

    1.  Attachment of Archwires

When each one of the brackets is in position, the specialist will run a flexible metal wire called the archwire through them. The wire is attached to each bracket using elastic bands or metal ligatures. Finally, pressure from the archwire will work towards ensuring your teeth are tightly intact.

    1.  Placement of Ligatures

In some cases, tiny elastic bands called ligatures may hold the arch wire on the bracket. Your ligatures come in varied colors; thus, you can be at the liberty of choosing your favorite, match up a special occasion.

After completing the parts and ligatures, make any final changes to ensure they are tangible and perfect. However, suppose the jaw wire is very long or very short. In the slightest case, your orthodontist may trim it with a cutting tool, giving a slight tightness on the wire for it to work on the teeth better. Indeed, metal braces are positioned in a short and relatively painless exercise that cedes ridiculous installation results for a straighter smile.
