In the United States, there are 284.5 million registered vehicles.

Regardless of how new of a car you might have, you can expect to have to eventually take it in for auto repair services at some point. It’s inevitable as these vehicles get older.

Today, we will talk about the top three common issues you should be aware of when taking your vehicle in for maintenance to prepare yourself for what you’ll be facing.

    Keep reading to learn more!

    1. Engine Overheating

The most common cause of an overheating engine is a coolant leak, so check all of your hoses and connections for leaks. If you find a leak, you can try to repair it with a sealant or tape, or you can replace the hose entirely.

Another common cause of an overheating engine is a failing water pump. If your water pump is not working correctly, it will not be able to circulate the coolant throughout the engine, causing it to overheat. Replace the water pump.

Finally, if your engine is overheating due to a clogged radiator, you can try flushing the radiator to remove the debris. If this does not work, you will need to replace the radiator.

Protecting your car with protection films can also help decrease the heat entering your vehicle. It may not cover your engine directly, but having them can contribute to reducing the overall temperature.

    1. Dead Battery

If your car doesn’t start, it may have a dead battery. Check the connections on the battery to make sure they’re clean and tight. If the battery is more than three years old, it may need to be replaced. If your car has a manual transmission, it may be able to be push-started.

A dead battery is usually caused by leaving the lights on or a faulty alternator. You’ll need to jump-start the car or replace the battery to fix this.

    1. Flat Tire

If you have a flat tire, you can do a few things to fix it.

First, you will need to find the source of the leak. This can be done by inflating the tire and then using a tire pressure gauge to check for leaks. Once you have found the leak, patch it or replace the tire.

If you are going to patch the tire, you will need to use a tire patch kit.

If you decide to replace the tire with a brand new set, you will need to find the same size and type of tire currently on the car.

Auto Repair is Stressful, but Don’t Panic

If you’re experiencing car trouble, don’t panic! You can usually fix these common issues without the help of an auto repair mechanic and without breaking the bank. Once you diagnose the issue, plenty of videos online will show you how to fix the problem. If you don’t feel comfortable, take it to a mechanic.
