Cycling is undoubtedly a challenging yet enjoyable sport. But if you are an avid biker, you must not be strange to certain issues that frequently crop up in a bike. Of course, getting those issues fixed by a mechanic is the first thing that may appear in your mind. But seasoned cyclists need to keep their bikes up and running smoothly at all times. And when you have your own set of reliable bike tools, you don’t always need to take trips to the nearest repair shop. Plus, there’s something inexplicably satisfying about maintaining and repairing your bike.

It is essential that you invest in highly precise and quality tools as they are long-lasting compared to cheap ones, which tend to bend and chip in a short time. The six essential tools mentioned below will ensure that you diagnose and fix problems independently and enjoy a smooth ride every time.

    1. Floor Pump

The equipment isn’t visually attractive, yet it helps repair a significant problem: a deflated tyre. By adequately inflating your tire, you can benefit from better handling during your ride. So, find the correct pressure for your tire and use a floor pump to inflate them. When your cycle tires are properly inflated, you will instantly experience an amazing bike ride.

    2. Tire Lever

When you’re out under the sun enjoying a great ride, getting a flat tire is the last thing that you would want. But more problematic is the task of getting it off with your hands to change it, and this is exactly where a great set of tire levers can come to your aid. You can remove and fit even the most stubborn of cycle tires safely with it.

    3. Cable Cutter

Cycle cables should be changed when they are worn. Aim to replace them after every 3,000 miles. A good quality cable cutter can make clean and precise cuts without damaging the ends. But, when buying one, pay special attention to the quality of the tool, as if you get the wrong one, you can end up with a frayed cable, which is totally useless.

    4. Hex Keys

Currently, many bicycles come with metric hex bolts; hence a reliable hex key set forms an essential part of bike tools. They fit the bolts securely and reduce the chances of them coming off in the middle of a ride. The ball end of these keys enables you to loosen and tighten even those bolts that are hard to reach. So, ensure that your set comprises a range of sizes so that it can easily fasten or loosen all the bolts.

    5. Torque Wrench

Your bike is held together with numerous bolts, nuts set, and hardware. So, after using your bicycle for a considerable amount of time, a need will arise for you to tighten them. But, the task can only be accomplished with a lightweight torque wrench, as it is perfect for tightening the seat post, stem, and saddle bolts. Their ergonomic design can help you do all the tasks conveniently. Also, you can use the one with wider hooks to replace your pedals.

    6. Chain Tool

A chain tool helps you to fix your bike chain independently, no matter where you are. Cutting your bike chain to an appropriate length and properly installing it extends the lifespan of your drivetrain. But, you need to make sure to do it at suitable intervals.

These are some of the handy tools that will help you repair and maintain your bike. They form the foundation of a reliable tool kit that will serve you at every stage of your cycling journey.
